Dr. William McLauchlan is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Dr. McLauchlan is a prolific writer who specializes in teaching American Government and Politics. McLauchlan received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin and his J.D. from the University of Chicago.
This workshop will prepare both the experienced and beginning teacher of AP* Government and Politics to give their students an analytical perspective on government and politics in the U.S. This course will focus on how to introduce students to both the study and the analysis of general concepts used to interpret U.S. government and politics. This professional development experience will give educators strategies to:
- familiarize students with various institutions, groups, beliefs, and ideas that constitute U.S. government and politics;
- acquaint students with the variety of facts and theoretical perspectives and explanations for various behaviors and outcomes pertaining to U.S. government;
- help students understand patterns of political processes and behavior and their consequences;
- teach students to analyze and interpret data relevant to U.S. government & politics.
