AP* Summer Institute

AP* Computer Science A

July 13 to July 16, 2009

Dr. Leon Tabak has twenty years of experience teaching computer science to undergraduates. He is currently on faculty at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Additionally, Dr. Tabak has developed software for industry and instructed corporate clients and customers in the use of software products. Tabak received his Ph.D. from Worcester Polytechnic Institute; his M.S. in Computer Science from Boston University; and his B.S. in Physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

This AP* Computer Science A class is designed to help prepare computer science teachers on the content in the AP* exam. Participants should have previous experience programming in a fully-featured programming language (i.e. C, C++, Pascal, Fortran, BASIC, Visual Basic, Python, Scheme, Java, etc.) but no knowledge of the AP* curriculum is assumed or expected. This class will focus on the AP* curriculum, including object-oriented programming, algorithm development, Java, sorting, searching, and more. The goal is to bring teachers together so that
