AP* Statistics - July 26 to 29, 2010

This workshop is geared to both the experienced and beginning teacher of AP* Statistics.  The workshop presents a global view of the research process, outlining the scope of research questions and methods.  This course will focus on how to introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data.  The course contents are divided into four major themes:

  • Exploring data:  Describing patterns and departures from patterns
  • Sampling and experimentation:  Planning and conducting a study
  • Anticipating patterns:   Exploring random phenomena using probability and simulations
  • Statistical inference:  Estimating population parameters and testing hypotheses

Linda Young

Columbus East High School, Columbus, IN

Linda Young has taught mathematics for more than 38 years.  Young earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Indiana University.  Young developed the AP*Statistics curriculum at Columbus East High School in Columbus, Indiana, where she currently teaches.  Linda is an AP* Statistics table leader and consultant for College Board.  She is a member of the NCTM and served as president of the Indiana Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
