CONGRATULATIONS to KIM GREEN
2010 Edna V. Folger Outstanding Teacher
Kim Green received the Edna V. Folger Outstanding Teacher Award at the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting on January 20, 2010. Green has been an educator for 29 years and currently teaches C4 Multimedia Communications and Journalism at Columbus North High School. Please send Kim a note of congratulations at greenk@bcsc.k12.in.us.
Under Mrs. Green’s leadership, the CNHS publications department has developed into one of the premier programs in the country. The newspaper and yearbook have combined for 47 national awards. Kim’s former students have gone onto hold positions at the likes of USA Today, St. Petersburg Times, Las Vegas Sun Times, Tulsa World, U.S. Congressional Press Secretary, and WTVW in Evansville.
Green is the recipient of numerous state and national awards including the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund Distinguished Newspaper Adviser of the Year and the Columbia Scholastic Press Advisers Association Sullivan Award for idealism, resilience, and pragmatism. Administrators and colleagues admire the way in which Mrs. Green consistently models the ability to remain dignified and ethical in the face of adversity.
The annual Folger award renews awareness of the immeasurable influence teachers have on their students and recognizes the image of the teacher as a community role model. The Folger award is sponsored by EMCON Technologies, the Community Education Coalition, and the Center for Teaching & Learning.
1500 students benefit from The Dictionary Project
For the 6th year, the Center for Teaching & Learning, Heritage Fund and Bartholomew Retired Teachers' Association (BARTA) have joined forces on The Dictionary Project . The goal of this national program is to assist all students in completing the school year as good writers, active readers and creative thinkers. The dictionaries are a gift to each third grade student to use at school and at home. Reading is the most important skill and is the starting point for economic and social opportunities. Over 300 English/Spanish dictionaries were distributed to elementary, middle, and high school students. Nearly 200 dictionaries were given to adults working to improve their literacy skills. THANKS to our partners at the Heritage Fund and BARTA for another great year of The Dictionary Project .
The Center for Teaching & Learning has been instrumental in building bridges among the faculties of IUPUC, Ivy Tech Community College Columbus, and the Purdue University College of Technology in Columbus. Faculty members routinely identify and share best practices and join in shared discussions about ways to improve teaching and learning.
